Selfridges has been a market leader in luxury retail since opening its doors over a century ago; revered for its style, creative flair and innovative approach.

Selfridges are looking for a highly talented Senior Photographer to join on a part time basis in its fast-paced, high-energy Photostudio department. The Online Photo-studio is comprised of various teams including Styling, Art Direction, Content, Retouch and Production, you will be working collaboratively with highly creative individuals helping to produce inspiring and accurate content that gives our customers an extraordinary digital experience whilst ensuring daily targets are achieved.

Reporting into the Photography Manager, you will be helping to drive a highly creative vision, implement the ecommerce strategy and maintain the highest quality photographic content.  You will work closely with the wider Photo-studio management team, Editorial team and our brand partners to align creative goals and ensure consistency as well as helping to drive forward the vision for our digital platforms.

Selfridges represents the pinnacle of luxury shopping so having an exceptional brand awareness is of the utmost importance.  All photography content needs to be on brand whilst appealing to the Selfridges customer.  Multi-tasking is key as you will be working on multiple projects simultaneously.

Key responsibilities

  • Reporting into the Photography Manager, you will be responsible for helping drive the Selfridges creative vision.  Spending time on set shooting RTW e-commerce imagery, collaborating & shooting seasonal campaigns.
  • Pre-shooting in showrooms overseas.
  • Leading and inspiring team members through business priorities.
  • Oversee and support with external partners.
  • Attend meetings, participating and sharing ideas & concepts. Cascading information to the team in weekly meetings.
  • Taking ownership when testing new ways of shooting.  Cascading changes to the wider team in a clear and articulate manner.
  • Producing & updating resource packs & guides for Photographers & Shoot Leads to follow.  Sharing the updated pack(s) to various teams within the Online Photo-studio.
  • Providing team members with the resources and tools they need in order for them to demonstrate their talent. 
  • Support the Photography Manager with daily tasks.
  • Look to improve and implement workflow process to further aid the Photography team.
  • Assist the Production team with Photographer & Shoot Lead placements.
  • It is essential to have a strong and extensive knowledge of shooting editorials & e-commerce fashion & still life.
  • Help organise and support with photographic workshops for the benefit of providing training to the Photography team.
  • In the absence of the Photography manager, ensure the studio runs efficiently, taking ownership of the quality of imagery that in shot in-house. 
  • Schedule and coordinate meet and greets for all new starters within the Photography team.
  • Conduct meet and greets with freelancers Photographers and Shoot Leads.
  • Ensure the photographic equipment is maintained. Sending off repairs to accredited companies. 
  • Support the castings team; shooting castings and feeding back accordingly.
  • Collaborate with the Head of Art Direction to achieve creative goals.
  • Working closely with the wider creative team, discussing and collaborating with briefs and shooting editorials.
  • Collaborate closely with the Styling Management team with the aim of improving workflow practices.
  • Collaborate with Art Direction, Shoot Producers, Production & Editorial stylists for all elevated e-commerce shoots (editorial shoots for the homepage).
  • Work closely with the Editorial Production team, supporting with off-site shoot logistics, pre & post production workflow channels.
  • Continue to build relationships with the Retouching team, establishing new workflow practices, aligning process along the way.
  • Updating the monthly consumables.
  • Continue to drive team moral, supporting a culture that stimulates creatives to display their true potential.
  • Build on and forge new relationships within the wider business.
  • Adhere to the Selfridges values, leading and inspiring a team through business priorities. 

A bit about you

  • This role requires a highly creative individual that has prior industry experience in e-commerce and/or editorial Photography. 
  • Your portfolio is of the utmost importance, it must demonstrate a strong editorial prowess.
  • Building on existing and forging new relationships amongst the wider business.
  • Confident in articulating creative briefs to team members and stakeholders.  
  • Have an invested interest in shooting fashion, video & still life photography. 
  • Extensive knowledge of leading a team, by having clear communication skills, and being confident in providing feedback.
  • Excellent brand awareness with luxury brands.
  • Quick decision making in a highly reactive environment employing a ‘can do’ attitude and having the willingness to always go the extra mile.
  • The ability to multi-task, prioritising workloads and working well under pressure.  Keeping a calm head at all times
  • Proficiency in photographic processes, understanding industry standard software packages which include; Capture one, Zerene Stacker, Adobe Creative Suite.
  • You must be a team player, sharing your knowledge, helping train and develop a team of Photographers and Shoot Leads.
  • Demonstrate a high attention to detail whilst working in a past paced e-commerce studio.
  • You have strong leadership skills and be able to work well in a pressured environment.  With your industry experience you will bring to the table new ways of working, helping drive the creative vision forwards.
