A bit about the role

A BIT ABOUT THE ROLE 

As our new Data Protection Manager, you’ll be responsible for the day to day management of the data protection function. As part of this, you will be required to

  • support the design, implementation and ongoing management of data protection and its component parts in Selfridges
  • Support the DPO by acting as the first point of contact for data protection issues within Selfridges and to deputize as the Data Protection Officer (DPO) when required
  • To manage the timely management and investigation of any data related breaches and update register
  • Create monthly reports on breaches, data subject rights, ongoing projects and high-level risks for Selfridges governance board
  • Roll out training programs and implementing internal policies (such as retention schedules) workplace and employee privacy policies. Conducting assurance checks in business to ensure compliance with same.
  • To create and implement internal comms plans and events
  • Handle complex data subject access requests.
  • Undertake legitimate interest assessments, DPIA's,
  • Review and maintain data mapping and Article 30 records, assigning correct lawful basis, purposes and retention.
  • Monitor legislative changes that impact data protection and draft advisory papers
  • Provides SME input into due diligence on new and existing suppliers processing personal data including review of supplier data processing agreements and contracts

 

  • Working in a complex online environment with networks of data sharing partners, cloud providers, RTB's and publishers, requiring a very technical understanding of the law, especially around online third-party consent, where liabilities can be joint.
  • Understanding, evaluating, and mitigating business risks.
  • Manage the network of DPAs across the business (all stores and office locations) including training, oversee a comms plan and events to raise awareness of DPAs and encourage a privacy culture through data protection audits and reports.
  • Arrange and attend quarterly visits to regional stores and offices
  • To act as owner of the Data Security SharePoint site, managing permissions and retention periods of all documentation
  • To manage the content structure of the Data Security SharePoint site

Strong verbal and written communication skills demonstrated in both day to day work and in formal meetings and reporting context. Strong excel reporting skills.

 

Required

  • A practical understanding of data protection law and practice, with relevant experience supporting a data protection programme.
  • Experience supporting a major change or improvement programme. A degree or similar professional qualification.

Desirable

  • Experience of working in a centralised team, delivering data protection tools, training, and projects across several teams.
  • Experience of working with an audit methodology.
  • Experience of working to a regulator/compliance standard
  • Recognised Data Protection accreditation
  • Experience in a luxury brand or retail
